Working in the ancient and alchemic artform of Encaustic holds a special reverence for me. In this complex and labor-intensive process I paint 50+ layers of molten, pigmented beeswax on Baltic birch panels; each layer fused with the low-flame of a torch. Every brushstroke and pass of the torch creates patina and texture that is storied, translucent and luminous.
I love the quiet stillness of this painting imbued with the blush of dawn rising over an awakening city.
